The Living Lantern: an invitation to pause
Created by NEON, an award-winning design practice based in the UK, founded by Mark Nixon and Viliina Koivisto, in collaboration with experiential light artist Frankie Boyle, The Living Lantern is a kinetic light installation that invites audiences to slow down and pay attention to their surroundings. Inspired by the universal symbolism of the lantern, the work brings together a sculptural structure in constant motion and a sensitive light experience that shifts with the wind, light, and context in which it is presented. In this cross-interview, Mark Nixon of NEON and Frankie Boyle reflect on the origins of their collaboration, their approaches to light and movement, and their shared desire to create experiences that foster contemplation, connection, and a deeper awareness of the world around us.
