The Pearl Divers

Created by Daily tous les jours, with production and technical direction by Wireframe, The Pearl Divers is an interactive pavement of light-sensor and audio tiles inspired by Dubai’s centuries-old pearl diving tradition, once known as the “local gold”.

Part of the Musical Shadows series, the installation can be arranged in multiple configurations. Day and night, shadows trigger traditional Bayati and Hijaz melodies, paying tribute to this local tradition that has gradually faded from collective memory.
