Shadowing, is a public artwork that uses technology to enhance the presence of individuals within urban settings. Originating from a response to the 2014 Playable City award, which aimed to foster connections and playfulness in cities rather than solely focusing on the ‘smart city’ narrative, Shadowing emphasizes the essence of being amidst others in urban environments..
In tracing the movements of people as they walk under the lamp, the project also draws reference to the ubiquitous digital surveillance that fills our cities. In this interpretation of the work, the lamp reveals the surveillance gaze that blankets most cities.
